Registration for HASTAC 2016 in Tempe, Arizona was supported in part by the generous sponsorship of GitHub Education, which made discounted and complimentary conference places available to attendees. This support reflects a broader commitment to widening access to humanities, arts, and sciences conversations, particularly for students and early-career scholars who might otherwise find registration costs prohibitive. The conference theme centered on imagination, innovation, and action, encouraging interdisciplinary exchange across the humanities, sciences, and education.

Beyond reduced registration rates, the conference also pursued a fuller program of support, including scholarships and travel-related assistance for graduate students and contributors. Organizers worked with sponsors and university partners to secure funding for those presenting papers, panels, and posters. The aim was to ensure that promising work from emerging researchers would be present in the sessions, helping the meeting live up to its emphasis on broader, current, and interdisciplinary thinking.

HASTAC 2016 took place in April at a conference hotel in downtown Tempe, located within walking distance of many of the area's cultural and academic institutions, with shuttle service available from the airport and discounted room rates arranged for attendees. A poster session, reception, and evening events formed part of the program, alongside talks and presentations designed to stimulate conversation among humanities scholars, scientists, and educators from across the country.

The visual identity of the conference site mirrored the meeting's energetic, collaborative character: a near-black background, crisp white typography, and a deep crimson accent used for headings, underlines, buttons, and small logo marks. Clean sans-serif type, minimal corner radius, and generous whitespace gave the pages a rigorous, modern tone, while photography with dark overlays preserved a moody, high-contrast feel. The result was an aesthetic that felt both scholarly and forward-looking.

Organizers expressed gratitude to sponsors, hosts, and supporters whose contributions made reduced and free registration possible, and encouraged proposals for future papers and presentations. The conference sought to continue building a connected community around digital humanities, digital sciences, and liberal arts scholarship, asking participants to bring questions, to share methods, and to consider the humanistic potential of emerging technologies in research, teaching, and public engagement.
